Chirundu based project headed by a powerful team of women and funded by Rhinoforce. We were priveleged to consult with this group of motivated women and to consult on more sustainable ways of collecting the vast amounts of waste discarded by the constant flow of trucks waiting to cross this busy border post. 30km lines of vehicles often waiting days and consuming plastic bottles of soft drinks and water.
The bins were designed by Alitab to be not only easy to use when the women have to tip them to empty but also to be baboon proof!
To improve efficiency at the corporate level, reducing the amount of waste produced and finding alternative uses for the waste of their production process. A good waste management process is helping in cutting costs
To improve collection at the community level, making it possible and easy the recycling of most of the waste, from compost, plastic, glass, metal, and paper. For each kind of waste, there is a proper way to increase the life cycle of the products and of the material
There is no proper sustainable waste management with a real impact on the environment without waste education. We work with schools, groups, communities, youth, NGOs, doing training and explaining the value of waste, the importance to sort and store. We promote and organize cleaning campaigns and we work with people on the ground.
If all waste was sorted, the amount of trash would be minimum. Any recycling process if the waste is not sorted is requiring a lot of time and a big cost of energy, for a low-efficiency result.
